Poems Upstairs – Poetry Ireland’s Popular Monthly Poetry Club
Poems Upstairs, Poetry Ireland’s popular monthly poetry club, returns to Books Upstairs this autumn.
A new collection by Moya Cannon is a major publishing event in Ireland, and Moya will read from Keats Lives, her Latest collection published by Carcanet Press, at Poems Upstairs on Wednesday 2 September at 7pm. Fellow poet Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin will introduce Moya, and music will be provided by harper Kathleen Loughnane. On Wednesday 30th September at 7pm author Paul Murray reading from his new novel The Mark and the Void and in conversation with novelist Siobhán Parkinson. On Wednesday 7 October, Poems Upstairs will feature Tim Cunningham, Rody Gorman, Teresa Lally and Michelle O’Sullivan. These four poets are recent recipients of the Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh Fellowship Award, which exists to recognize and assist Irish poets who have published work of merit.
November’s Poems Upstairs event on Wednesday 4 November features poets Katie Donovan and Peggy O’Brien, two friends from opposite sides of the Atlantic, each recognized for their sumptuous, rish, visceral, humorous and insightful poetry.
The final Poems Upstairs event in the autumn series takes place on Wednesday 2 December and focusses on The Hidden World of Poetry, Adam Wyeth’s unique book on Celtic mythology in contemporary Irish poetry. Adam and four of the poets featured in the book: Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Mary O'Malley and Matthew Sweeney, will read and discuss their work.
Poems Upstairs takes place monthly in Books Upstairs on Dublin's D'Olier Street, tickets to Poems Upstairs include a glass of wine to enjoy with the readings.
