People’s Climate Picnic
Colorful Family Picnic to Take Place this Sunday in St Stephen’s Green
Families and individuals looking for a fun outdoors activity this weekend are being encouraged to participate in the People’s Climate Picnic, which will take place from 12noon to 2pm this Sunday, 21st September, at the Bandstand, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2.
This family-friendly event is being organised by Stop Climate Chaos; the Climate Gathering; and People’s Climate Ireland. It will feature an exciting array of activities, including live music and circus performances; face-tattooing; interactive arts; and much more.
Dublin’s Climate Picnic is one of thousands of events taking place in cities and towns around the globe this coming weekend, aimed at highlighting climate change issues in the lead-up to the UN Climate Summit, which takes place in New York next week.
Speaking ahead of the picnic, Ciara Kirrane, Coordinator of Stop Climate Chaos, said: “Next Tuesday, leaders from around the world will be meeting for a summit on climate change in New York. Taoiseach Enda Kenny will attend this meeting and we want to send a strong message to him that people in Ireland care about climate change; its impact on things and places near and dear to them; and the fact that world leaders are not doing enough to avert climate chaos.
“Images from our picnic, and from countless other events taking place around the world, will be shown to world leaders as they enter the UN Climate Summit next week. By coming to the People’s Climate Picnic you will be part of a worldwide movement showing our leaders that we care about climate change and that we want them to commit to action now.
“As the summer draws to a close, the welcome spell of sunshine in recent weeks affords a great opportunity to enjoy a lovely afternoon in the park, while simultaneously drawing attention to important climate change issues. We encourage everybody to bring their picnic baskets on Sunday, enjoy the entertainment we have lined up, and have a great afternoon out while supporting an important cause!”
