Meet the Witch at National Leprechaun Museum
Halloween at the Leprechaun Museum
The Cailleach, or Cailleach Bhérarra, is the primal mother of Ireland. She is referred to often as being from medieval times, but her presence stretches back to a much earlier time. Across the land rocks and cairns, tombs and graves are her seats, her beds, her homes and even her body.
We’ve all visited Santa Claus at Christmas, but this Halloween The National Leprechaun Museum invites you to visit the Cailleach and meet the witch, the ancient hag of wisdom from Irish folklore. At this time the world draws breath and the ancient year draws to a close. The festival of Samhain, summers end, celebrates life, death, and life beyond death.
The Cailleach Bhéarra is the divine hag of Ireland and she appears all around the island. She shaped the coastline with huge rocks, bore the harvest and tested heroes. She comes in many forms and goes by many names. The Hag remembers who we are and where we came. We invite you to visit with the Cailleach each day from 24 October to 01 November to experience the deep memory of our Island home.
