Hard Working Class Heroes – The Workmans Club

FestivalMusic

Hard Working Class Heroes Festival is on this Saturday, 4th of October at The Workman's Club.

Benny Smiles

8pm - 8.30pm The Workman's Club

Benny Smiles is an electronic music producer based in Dublin, Ireland. The first single "Somehow Yours Do (feat. Sorca Lou)" from his second EP is out now - watch the official music video at bit.ly/1bJws1f

Following an impressive year in 2012 with glowing press for his debut release in August, performances at Electric Picnic, Castlepalooza and Hard Working Class Heroes, Benny Smiles was tipped by Hotpress as HOT for 2013.

After countless festival appearances and support slots with Ghostpoet and London Grammar capping off an exciting 2013, Benny is now preparing his second EP.

Low Sea

8.40 - 9.10 The Workman's Club

Ireland-based duo Low Sea combine warped seasick-shoegaze, nostalgic pop longing and blissed-out dreampop, all cemented on a solid krautrock platform.
With sounds that reference everything from Suicide to Spacemen 3, A.R.Kane to Mazzy Star, Giorgio Moroder to The Big Pink, Low Sea’s songs are a hazy journey between looming shadows and bleached-out light.

The Bedroom

9.20pm - 9.50pm The Workman's Club

The Bedroom is an audiovisual project by Galway native Olan Stephens
( Previously of Belfast Math Pop quartet Eatenbybears )

The Bedroom produces a distinct blend of experimental pop with an emphasis on bass & beat heavy production. This sound is presented with a visual palette exploring the surreal and the abstract through found footage from the minds of the young & the lost.

Carried By Waves

10pm - 10.30pm The Workman's Club

Dan Hegarty 2Fm: 'Softly Held Together' is without question one of the finest debut albums of 2012... many, many people are going to fall in love with this...beautifully crafted tunes"..... Dan featured 'Softly Held Together' as his 'Album of the week' upon its release & listed it at number 4 in his 'Top 100 Irish Albums of 2012'.

Hot Press: There’s something totally beguiling about the musical musings of Carried By Waves, particularly the electronically doctored vocal of its mysterious conductor... a dreamy, astral treat.

We Are Noise: Carried By Waves' songs are textured, layered & engrossing..They concoct a set of sounds that verge on euphoria.

The Point Of Everything: 'Softly Held Together' is one of those albums that, just when you’ve got the songs figured out, they take you by surprise. A prime example is the chilled ‘Stranger Talk’ which hits you with such power just as you might be drifting off. "Softly Held Together" sounds fantastic.

Meltybrains

10.40 - 11.10 The Workman's Club

Meltybrains? are a 5-piece, experimental, electronic band, based in Dublin, Ireland. Their sound is quite at odds with much of what is on offer from the music scene, yet takes its inspiration from hip-hop, IDM, rock and contemporary classical music, among other things. Meltybrains? have gigged extensively in Ireland, cementing themselves as a favourite on the music festival circuit, with their high energy live shows. They have also released a handful of EPs and singles to great critical acclaim.

In January 2014, the band had a very successful tour of the U.S.A., performing in venues in California, Texas, Ohio and Tennessee. Meltybrains? also recently played their first London show, to a sold-out crowd in the Servant Jazz Quarters. The band have more international dates in the pipeline, as well as some exciting new releases.
