Hard Working Class Heroes – The Button Factory

FestivalMusic

Hard Working Class Heroes Festival is on this Friday, 3rd of October at The Button Factory.

Subplots

8pm - 8.30pm The Button Factory

Subplots are Phil Boughton and Daryl Chaney.

'Colourbars' marks the first new release by the band in over 5 years. A marked departure from their debut album 'Nightcycles', the track is the first taste of their forthcoming second album, due in October this year on their own Cableattack!! Records imprint. The Thin Air recently declared 'Colourbars' to be one of their favourite Irish songs of 2014.

Returning to live action in 2014 following a lengthy enforced hiatus, the band are joined live by drummer Ross Chaney. Their forthcoming second LP was inspired in part by woozy LA hip hop, a newfound love of modular synthesisers, the design work of David Carson and Autumn.

Subplots released their debut album Nightcycles in 2009. Nightcycles was included in a number of 2009's albums of the year lists, including RTE Guides Top 9 of 2009, State.ie and Nialler 9's reader poll.

 Silences

8.40pm - 9.10pm The Button Factory

Hailing from Armagh, Silences are Conchúr White, Christopher Harbinson, Breándan White, Jonathan Downing and Michael Keyes. The group have featured on BBC Radio 1, RTE Other Voices and have received critical acclaim for their debut E.P. 'Nevernames'. Working closely with producer Declan Legge, they have managed to capture a sound that 'Goldenplec' has described as: "a lesson in understated inventiveness that quickly charms the listener into willing surrender". Less than a year after their inception as a five piece group, Silences were asked to perform on the 'Other Voices' stage at Electric Picnic. Their eagerly awaited second EP 'Sister Snow' will be released in October.

I have a Tribe

10pm - 10.30pm The Button Factory

Patrick O'Laoghaire aka I Have A Tribe, has had a busy last 12 months recording his debut EP with Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi) and Conor O’Brien of Villagers, touring Europe with Anna Calvi, opening for Villagers’ Irish homecoming show and performing at The Great Escape, Electric Picnic and CMJ in New York. I Have A Tribe’s blend of plaintive pop and folk-tinged melancholia has never been more evident than on the spellbinding 'Monsoon' and the lead track from the EP ‘Yellow Raincoats’ released in May 2014.

O’Laoghaire has lived with the idea of I Have A Tribe for years, but it only became real after an influx of confidence gained by touring and recording with Irish band Slow Skies: “It started when I got more brave. I just wanted to see if I could make something real using the colours that were in my head.”
