The landscape of hip-hop music today would have a completely different terrain if it weren't for the innovative influence of The Bomb Squad's legendary head honcho Hank Shocklee.
His layered, noisy style which draws influence from rap, punk and rock equally was considered a groundbreaking brand of production in hip hop. Sampling in music is now a part of the mainstream culture and Shocklee, is responsible for bringing the art of sampling to the forefront by creating techniques such as filtering and multiband micro-loop sampling.
As part of The Bomb Squad, Shocklee served as Producer and Executive Producer for Public Enemy, undoubtedly the most influential rap group on the planet, and led them to the success of one double platinum, four platinum and two gold albums.
He's also credited with creating seminal recordings and movie soundtracks for a variety of other artists such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Run Dmc, and Ridley Scott's "American Gangster".
MusicTown is delighted to host the legend that is Hank Shocklee for a question and answer session followed by an unmissable genre mashing DJ set.
