Dublin Goes Country: In Lonesome Dame
Dublin is set to go country: Grab your partner by the hand and get down to Dame Street District to see the transformation of the city’s cultural quarter into a Country and Western mecca. Find out more about Dublin’s Country & Western transformation here.
Dublin is being transformed into the Country and Western capital of Europe with lots of free events to keep your foot tapping and your steps square. First up is street celebration In Lonesome Dame – a spin on the Garth Brook’s song ‘In Lonesome Dove’ at Dame Street District.
From line dancing in the street, the bustling junction of Dame Court and Dame Lane will host a live music stage with the best in country and Americano music in true hoedown style.
Although you’ll be right in the city centre (less than 5 minutes walk from Grafton Street), it’ll definitely feel more than a bit country with colourful gingham bunting, bales of hay, old barn fences and plenty of Cowboy outfits.
While you’re there, grab a specially curated map and follow the OK Corral Busking trail, a music trail of well-known musicans which starts at Grafton Quarter and takes you through the city centre to Wolfe Tone Square.
Other highlights include:
- Square Dancing in the Street on Friday, where you can learn the basics of square dancing with live music setting the pace or even teach others a thing or two
- BBQ with quality Irish meat – perfect for a hard day on the ranch
- Ireland’s best western and country singers dotted in pubs and venues around the city
What’s the Dame District?
Dame District in Dublin is an epicentre for socialising on any night of the week. Located just behind Dame Street and parallel to George’s Street, the summer crowds gather on the cobbled streets taking in the summer air, listening to music, dancing and talking under the hue of fairy lights.
All you need to do now is dust off those cowboy boots.
The Lonesome Dame event takes place July 25th, 26th and 27th from 7pm to 10pm. Admission is free.
