ANU presents ‘Yellow’-Road to The Rising
In this production created specially for RTÉ Road to the Rising, director Louise Lowe and her cast are propelled back to 1915 Dublin, a city gripped by austerity and gearing up for a fight.
Thousands have gone to fight in World War 1. Back home, the
Irish Volunteers are drilling in the Phoenix Park. The separation women are drunk and stones are being thrown at the ‘Canaries’*.
We join the story on a Dublin side street as a young wife searches for her errant husband.
Actors include: Shane Whisker and Alanna Nolan
*’Canaries’ was the nickname given to women who worked in munitions factories during WW1. Prolonged exposure to TNT turned their skin a yellow-orange colour similar to the plumage of a canary.
