Abbey Theatre presents ‘Death of a Comedian’
The Abbey Theatre presents Owen McCafferty's Death of a Comedian.
Owen McCafferty will return to the national theatre this month with his newest work. Death of a Comedian marks a new direction for the writer and his rationale for writing the play comes from his fascination with what makes comedians tick.
The play tells the story of aspiring stand-up comedian Steve Johnston who struggles in squalid clubs while dreaming of the big time. His act pulls no punches as he takes aim at politicians, war-mongers and injustice. Girlfriend Maggie insists he remain true to himself and his principles. However, when smooth-talking agent Don Wright offers Steve a promise of stardom, it’s a Faustian pact too irresistible to turn down. He swaps his soul and his girlfriend for the limelight.
This play is an absolute must see for all theatre lovers!
