Things to Do in Dublin from December 26-30

Written by Nirina Plunkett on December 26, 2019. Posted in Activities Christmas Family Music Updates

We all know that lull period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, when you don’t know what day it is or what to do.

It can be tough keeping track of the day, the date and the time when you’re still recovering from the Christmas Day feast. After the big day, there is a period of time when we can rather lose ourselves and get restless. So to avoid that, we’ve devised a handy list of things to do in Dublin from December 26th until December 30th.

Sales! Sales! Sales!

The St. Stephen’s Day shopping sales are notorious, and yet there are so many of them! Maybe you wanted to wait until after Christmas to get that new coffee machine or designer handbag. Or perhaps you’re heading away in the New Year and in need of holiday attire. Put on your comfies, get into town and enjoy the sales happening around town.

Movie Marathons

Take yourself out of the house and enjoy a handful of movies from one of the cinemas in town. There is a handful of great films to see during the holidays at Cineworld Parnell Street and Savoy Cinema O’Connell Street including Cats, Little Women, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker and Playing with Fire.

And if you want to enjoy your own choice of movies, Brooks Hotel’s Private Cinema is available for private hire bookings – just book in and bring your DVDs to be screened. Contact their reservations team by calling (01) 670 4000 or emailing reservations@brookshotel.ie.

Walking Through Museums

A classic way to spend a few hours in town, the museums in Dublin really are next to none. From the Little Museum of Dublin, the National Wax Museum Plus and the Leprechaun Museum, to the Seámus Heaney Exhibition and the GPO Museum, these family friendly museums are great for all to enjoy.

Taking in Art Galleries

Similar to museums, if you’re an art fan or creative mind, you’ll enjoy the many art galleries dotted around the city. The Hugh Lane Gallery on Parnell Square, The LAB on Foley Street, Sol Art Gallery on D’Olier Street, the Douglas Hyde Gallery in Trinity College, Solomon Fine Art on Balfe Street, Duke Street Gallery, Kerlin Gallery on Anne’s Lane, as well as the National Gallery of Ireland on Merrion Square. Just be sure to check their opening hours!

Whiskey Tasting Experiences

For those a little older, maybe you’re in the mood for tasting food and drinks while learning about them. The Irish Whiskey Museum on Grafton Street and the Dingle Whiskey Bar over on Nassau Street are ideal for those who enjoy whiskey history and tasting.

Gigs and Music Venues

Sometimes a night of music is best, so what better way to spend it than in one of Dublin’s many hot spots for live music! Check out Irish up and coming bands, local artists and singer songwriters at The Grand Social, Lost Lane, Whelan’s and The Academy. As well as pubs The Mercantile, Mary’s, Bruxelles, Porterhouse Central, The Long Hall, The Bankers, Madigan’s, The Parnell Heritage Pub, and The Celt (just to name a few!) – which are great for traditional Irish music alongside a good pint & pub grub!
